THE ROOFING FIELD GUIDE

Better information.
Better decisions.

Clear answers about materials, measurements, inspection and your proposal.

Can my roof be repaired instead of replaced?+

A localized leak, flashing problem or a few damaged shingles may have a targeted repair. Widespread damage, brittle materials or repeated failures can point toward replacement. Peaked documents the condition, explains the options and puts the recommended work in writing.

Can I pay for the work myself?+

Yes. You can request a repair or compare replacement packages without an insurance claim. Your written proposal identifies materials, labor, removal, disposal and the treatment of hidden damage, so you can choose the work and upgrades that fit your property and budget.

What does Peaked do if I have an insurance claim?+

We inspect and photograph the property, prepare an itemized contractor estimate and explain our repair methods, quantities and costs. If the work reveals additional damage, we can document it and provide a revised estimate or supplement for review. Your insurer decides coverage and claim payment.

What is a supplement?+

It is an update to the contractor’s estimate supported by the work required—for example, additional damaged decking found during tear-off or a missing flashing item. We provide photos, measurements and technical explanations for the changed scope. A supplement is not a promise of insurance payment.

What will I pay on an insurance project?+

Your deductible, policy terms, approved scope and chosen upgrades affect your share. Ask your insurer to explain depreciation and any conditions for further payment. We separate the contracted work and optional upgrades in the proposal; the deductible remains your responsibility.

How accurate is an online estimate?+

It is a planning range based on the area, material and scope entered. Hidden damage, code requirements, access and exact measurements can change the final proposal.

Will it look exactly like the visualizer?+

Screen colors, lighting and generated images vary. Use the studio to narrow your preferences, then review a physical sample and the specified product.

What about 30-, 40- and 50-year shingles?+

These labels often describe product tiers. Many current architectural products have limited lifetime warranties. Compare the exact warranty and installation terms, not a promised lifespan.

Before an inspection

Take photos from a safe location. Note when a leak appears and which rooms are affected. Gather prior roofing documents. Do not climb onto a damaged roof.

Roof area is not floor area

Slope, overhangs and roof shape change the covering area. One roofing square is 100 square feet. Satellite estimates need verification. Material orders need edge lengths and accessory details.
